Serenity Hospice Managers
Cadie Andrew, BSW, MSW, LCSW, LMT
Social Services Director
Cadie completed her undergraduate degree in Social Work at Utah State University and her Master of Social Work degree at Walla Walla University. She realized what an important role massage therapy could play in a hospice patient’s end-of-life experience while working with hospice patients in Salt Lake City, Utah. This prompted Cadie to enroll in massage school at Healing Mountain Massage School, thus incorporating Massage Therapy into her hospice work. When presented with the opportunity to move to Oregon to work at a new, innovative hospice with a focus on complementary and alternative therapies, she knew it was the right fit!
Cadie moved to Oregon in August of 2006 to become the first employee of the new Serenity Hospice. About one year later, Cadie organized the first “Serenity Helping Hands” project by asking her teammates to donate their time, outside of work hours, to assist patients with tasks that they were unable to complete on their own. Today, Serenity Helping Hands the name of a non-profit foundation that complements the vision of Serenity Hospice.
Cadie has seen Serenity Hospice blossom over the past few years and believes that Serenity’s philosophy of “patients first” allows her and her fellow Serenitarians to provide top-notch care. In her spare time, Cadie enjoys dancing, crafting - such as counted cross stitch and crochet, jogging and entering 5k races, and spending time with friends and family. She looks forward to retiring from this job, in another 40 years or so!
Angela Galinis, LMT
Complementary Alternative Modalities Manager
Volunteer Coordinator Angela Galinis studied massage at East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR. She graduated in March of 2007 with over 800 hours of study including work in Deep tissue, Trigger point, and Tui na. Shortly after graduating, Angela started working at the school's professional massage clinic and eventually became a lead massage therapist at the clinic. Angela learned of hospice massage from one of her teachers while attending East West and was immediately drawn the idea of working with individuals in the end-of-life journey.
In February of 2008, Angela became a part of the Serenity Hospice team as one of their Massage Therapists. She has taken classes in geriatric and hospice massage and plans to continue her studies in order to better serve Serenity patients and their families. In addition to providing regular massage for Serenity patients and their caregivers, Angela is the Complementary Alternative Modalities manager for Serenity Hospice as well as the Volunteer Coordinator. By recruiting, training, and organizing Serenity’s amazing team of volunteers, as well as promoting Serenity’s vast array of CAM therapies, Angela allows Serenity Hospice to offer a comprehensive, holistic definition of care at end-of-life. Angela competed in the 2005 Ironman Canada Triathlon and is currently training for the 2010 Ironman Canada. Her French bulldog Moxie is her biggest cheerleader!
