Serenity Hospice Owners
Angela Galinis - Admission Coordinator at Serenity Hospice Lenny Jensen, MSN, FNP Hospice Director
Owner, Serenity Palliative Care and Hospice
Lenny is a 15 year veteran of the US Army. He served his first 5 years as an enlisted soldier with the Mechanized 2nd Infantry Division and the 101st Airborne infantry as an Air Defense Artillery squad leader. In 1999 he was awarded a Green to Gold scholarship, which allowed him to return to school to receive his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. This earned Lenny his commission in the Army Nurse Corps. Lenny first learned of the benefits of incorporating complementary modalities into traditional Western Medicine during his classes at Westminster. This novel approach to integrative medicine sparked something in Lenny that can today be seen in Serenity’s unique organizational holistic approach to care.

Lenny returned to active duty to work as a Medical Oncology nurse where he continued his work with Palliative and End of life care. Ultimately his nursing paths lead him to work as a Mental Health Nurse, which allowed him to work with soldiers from Washington State to Washington DC. It was during his time at Ft. Lewis, Washington the dreams of Serenity Hospice began. In 2005 Lenny and his wife Mari began to lay the foundation of Serenity Hospice. As if he wasn’t busy enough running a company and raising his two children, Lenny went back to school and graduated with his Masters of Science in Nursing from University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2009. His master’s level training focused on primary and family care with a special emphasis on palliative care including oncology and end of life care. Lenny completed his 15 years of military service as a Captain in the 396th Combat support hospital based in Vancouver Barracks, Vancouver, WA.
Angela Galinis - Admission Coordinator at Serenity Hospice Trevor Higby, MBA Operations Director
Owner, Serenity Palliative Care and Hospice
Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Trevor has lived all over the country. He first met Lenny Jensen in their undergraduate ROTC and they soon became best friends (and later business partners). Trevor spent 4 years active duty as a Cavalry Officer in the 1st Cavalry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas. He earned the rank of Captain and commanded 14 tanks and over 60 soldiers with one of the Army’s oldest and most decorated Combat Battalions. Trevor and his wife Suzanne have two boys, Hunter and Connor.

When Lenny asked Trevor to partner with him in starting a hospice company in Portland, Oregon, Trevor and his family dove right in, eagerly moving to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Although Trevor claims not to know much about hospice, he recognizes the importance of creating a culture, and making the Serenity Office a fun yet safe space for the team to decompress. Trevor is a prankster, and his jokes and tomfoolery help to maintain the atmosphere in the Serenity Office. Trevor’s business operations savvy complements Lenny’s extensive clinical knowledge, providing Serenity Hospice with a solid foundation to grow on.
Angela Galinis - Admission Coordinator at Serenity Hospice Mari Jensen Director of Human Resources
Owner, Serenity Palliative Care and Hospice
Mari spent most of her childhood and adolescence moving across the country with her family. She feels it was preparation for her to become the proud military wife she is today. After finally planting roots in Utah, Mari received her Bachelor’s of Science degree, with a Major in English, from Weber State University located in Ogden, Utah. She spent several years working in the insurance and public relations industries prior to the creation of Serenity Hospice. Serenity began as a gleam in Mari and her husband Lenny’s eyes and quickly became the topic of endless conversations. Mari found herself devoting countless hours laying the foundation for what was to become Serenity Palliative Care and Hospice.

In addition to being a business owner and HR Director, Mari is the proud mom of two. She uses her experience with the insurance industry to help Serenitarians access and navigate their benefits. She loves working with the terrific team at Serenity Hospice and spending time with her business partners. When not working she devotes all her time to her family and is determined to one day have a beautiful backyard.
Angela Galinis - Admission Coordinator at Serenity Hospice Suzanne Higby Owner, Serenity Palliative Care and Hospice Suzanne and her husband Trevor moved to Oregon to start Serenity Hospice. After years of living on Army bases throughout the US, Suzanne is grateful to be in the Pacific Northwest where we get the best of all 4 seasons – and she plans on staying here forever! Prior to Serenity, Suzanne spent time in the insurance industry, gaining experience that aids in her role as an Officer on Serenity’s governing body.

Suzanne and Trevor have two boys, Hunter and Connor, who occupy most of their time. Connor suffers from a rare but serious handicap called Walker Warburg Syndrome which has disabled him both physically and mentally. Connor isn’t able to walk or talk but that doesn’t stop him from joining Suzanne in the cheering section for Hunter’s soccer, baseball, and basketball games, which is where they can usually be found. Although being a mom is Suzanne’s number one hobby, she loves traveling, reading, and exploring Portland’s diverse culinary cuisine. She often finds herself sitting back and reflecting on how an idea that seemed like a pipe dream shared amongst friends has manifested into what Serenity Hospice is today.
